Merry Christmas!!

Christmas is a very special time for me! I love this holiday of spending time with family no matter where they are. This year I will be in Australia for the holidays visiting my brother in the Peace Corps.
As a celebration of Christmas. I have included a link to Christmas around the World. Christmas is celebrated in slightly different ways around the world. For example, in Germany they have a few different traditions including:

According to legend, on Christmas Eve in Germany rivers turn to wine, animals speak to each other, tree blossoms bear fruit, mountains open up to reveal precious gems, and church bells can be heard ringing from the bottom of the sea. Of course, only the pure in heart can witness this Christmas magic. All others must content themselves with traditional German celebrating, of which there is plenty. As a matter of fact, there is so much celebrating that is has to begin on December 6th, St. Nicholas Day.

As in many other European countries, on the eve of Dec. 6th children place a shoe or boot by the fireplace. During the night, St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children, hops from house to house carrying a book of sins in which all of the misdeeds of the children are written. If they have been good, he fills the shoe or boot with delicious holiday edibles. If they have not been good, their shoe is filled with twigs.

Check out this website for even more holiday traditions around the world!

Sequels I Can't Wait For... Final Episode!

This will be my final posting on the sequels I am looking forward to in 2013. There are many more excellent series being continued next year, but I have not had a chance to fall in love with them yet. Please let me know of any worthy additions to this list. I am always looking for new books to try out! Here are my final two sequels although both don't have titles released or the summary yet:

Throne of Glass #2 by Sarah J. Maas --> sequel to Throne of Glass

I fell in love with this series from the moment I started reading the book. The thing that caught my attention first from the first book was the title, Throne of Glass. I was intrigued by the title. After I read the summary I knew I had to read Throne of Glass. What is better than a strong female character who is also a deadly spy? I flew through the first book it was written so well with excellent character and plot development.

The summary has not yet been released, but if I had to guess I would go with the development of the relationship between Celaena and the prince. I would also expect more intrigue and action from the second book with more explanation of the magic. Furthermore, I am expecting some action to be taken against the king by Celaena. I am very excited for this book which is expected to be released some time in 2013.

Dracomachia by Rachel Hartman --> sequel to Seraphina
Seraphina is one of those books that the cover did not appeal to me at all. I thought the book was a little old looking and possibly childish. The reason I ended up reading this book was from the many positive reviews I read about the book. I figured I had to give it a try. I am very glad I ended up reading this book. As soon as I started, I flew through the book. I have an interest in books with dragons and even more in books with dragons as main characters. The first book left off with a cliffhanger. I can't wait to see how the series continues.

As I already mentioned, this book does not have a cover or summary released yet. This means I will make something up for you! :) I'm sure the book will continue with the development of a meaningful partnership between dragons and humans. Seraphina will be a major part of this development. Seraphina will also journey to find the half dragon, half humans in the kingdom of Goredd. I'm sure there will be a lot of conflict between the two sides who oppose this alliance. The second book has an expected publication of July 9th 2013 by Random House Children's Books.

What books are you excited to read in 2013?

End of the World?

As predicted by the Mayan calendar, the world is scheduled to end tomorrow. In the Herald Times newspaper over the weekend was an article on the events we would never experience if the world should end. It was funny; I would recommend reading the article.

I have included in this posting a link to NASA's website. On this webpage they clearly explain why they believe the Earth will not be destroyed tomorrow. It has a lot of interesting facts!

Sequels I'm Dying to Read...Part Three!

Originally, I was going to do one post, but I made the mistake of looking at my GoodReads site. There are a lot more books that I am anxiously awaiting the sequel and I didn't even realize it. I honestly don't think I could pick one book I am anxiously waiting for over any of the others. All of these series are different in many ways and can't be compared together. Here are an additional three I am awaiting their release!

The Elite by Kiera Cass --> Sequel to The Selection

I fell in love with the first book the minute I saw the cover. If it hasn't become apparent yet, I LOVE pretty dresses. Plus the mirrors add an interesting dimension. I am a huge sucker for books with phenomenal photos on the front. As a librarian, I need to state that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but lets face it, we all do. That's why publishers pay outrageous amounts of money for the cover design. Well, publishers you won this time! The book spoke for itself after I started reading it. I loved the concept, the characters and how the plot developed. I can't wait for The Elite to be released next year!

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, she is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

Awaken by Meg Cabot --> 3rd book in Abandon series

I first started reading this series on a recommendation from my younger sister. Often we exchange suggestions. I had already read the princess mia series by Cabot and loved that series. I was excited to start reading this new series. I was surprised by the diversity with which Meg Cabot can write. She can do historical, modern, fantasy, etc. Plus each of her books are phenomenal. The minute I started reading Abandon, I fell in love with it. I also loved mythology and the telling of Persephone is phenomenal in this series. The second book, Underworld, was just as good. I can't wait for the series finale.
Death has her in his clutches. She doesn't want him to let go.

Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she’d be forced to live forever in the one place she’s always dreaded most: the Underworld. The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves.

But now her happiness — and safety — are threatened, all because the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: He revived a human soul.

If the balance between life and death isn't fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce’s home back on earth will be wiped away. But there’s only one way to restore order. Someone has to die.

The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson --> 3rd book in the Fire and Thorns series

I just finished the second book in this series, The Crown of Embers. It was excellent! I was not as enthusiastic about the first book. I thought The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley was a much better choice than the first book. BUT the second book proved me wrong. It took us on a whole new adventure and added depth to the story. I can't wait to continue the adventure in the third book.

There is yet to be a summary for this book to be released as well as a book cover. Here is what I would guess the book to be about: Elisa will find the courage and wisdom to become the great leader and queen we got a glimpse of in the first book. She will go in search of Hector in the enemy's camp. I think we will find out some interesting information about the Inviernes. I can't wait for this adventure. There was also a book released in July 2012 about Elisa's sister, Aloida. It was only released as an electronic book. I can't wait to read that one as well.

Movie Review: The Watch

I recently watched The Watch. After hearing bad reviews for this movie, I was a little leery to watch the movie. I was thoroughly impressed! The key is to go into the movie not taking any of it seriously. It would be very lame if you take the movie seriously. It's meant as a comedy, and I found it very funny! Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Ben Stiller make a good team. Richard Ayoade is an excellent addition, and is actually my favorite character in this movie. Give this movie a chance today!

There's trouble brewing in peaceful Glenview, Ohio. That's why four civic-minded citizens, armed with flashlights, walkie-talkies and spiffy new jackets, have teamed up to safeguard their community. But the guys find more than they bargained for when they uncover an alien plot to destroy Earth, and now these bumbling heroes are Glenview's only chance to save the neighborhood - and the world - from annihilation!

Movie Review: Rock of Ages

I recently watched Rock of Ages. I love musicals and pretty much all I knew about the movie was that it was a musical with 80's rock music which I love. I didn't read any reviews about it which I probably should have done first. This movie was very poorly done. I loved the music but not the people who sang it. They butchered some of my favorite songs. It was something good to have it playing in the background , but I would never watch it again. It was a little over done.
Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and more. -- (C) Warner Bros

Sequels I'm Anxiously Awaiting... Part Two!

This is the third of four installments of sequels I am looking forward to! Depressingly, I have only read about 25 books this year. With school and other family obligations, I have not read as much as I normally would. So my list of to-reads is shorter than it normally would be. Here are the next four series I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Lorien Legacies #4 by Pittacus Lore --> This fourth book will follow The Rise of Nine

I fell in love with this series when I am Number Four was first released. Due to the popularity of the book, a movie was released which did not do the book justice. Nonetheless, book 2 and 3 were just as good as the first book. It can be a little difficult to switch between the different narrating voices, but well worth the time.

There are no current details on the plot of the book. If I would guess, I would say they finally meet up with Number 5 and complete the garde. I would hope they start developing and utilizing more talents as they prepare to meet and fight against Setrakus Ra. In addition, I would expect Pittacus Lore to once again resurface. Can't wait!
School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins --> Hex Hall Spin-off

I really liked the Hex Hall series. Rachel Hawkins did an excellent job of developing the characters and wrapping up the book series. I saw this spin-off novel a few days ago. I'm not sure if it's before, after or during the other series. I'm excited to see if there will be some of the same characters in addition to the Brannick family and where Hawkins will take us.
Fifteen-year-old Izzy Brannick was trained to fight monsters. For centuries, her family has hunted magical creatures. But when Izzy’s older sister vanishes without a trace while on a job, Izzy's mom decides they need to take a break.

Izzy and her mom move to a new town, but they soon discover it’s not as normal as it appears. A series of hauntings has been plaguing the local high school, and Izzy is determined to prove her worth and investigate. But assuming the guise of an average teenager is easier said than done. For a tough girl who's always been on her own, it’s strange to suddenly make friends and maybe even have a crush.

Can Izzy trust her new friends to help find the secret behind the hauntings before more people get hurt?

Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier --> 3rd book in Ruby Red Trilogy

I am really enjoying this series. I was forced to read Ruby Red for Battle of the Books last year and fell in love with it. Normally, I hate time traveling books, but for some reason this series has me enthralled! I love the main characters, Gwen and Gideon, and I can't wait to find out what happens in this adventure. I want to find out what the nefarious plans are!

This book has not yet released a summary for the book although we do have a cover which look samazing! I'm a huge sucker for pretty dresses! If I had to guess, I would think book 3, final book in the series, will finally reveal all the mysterys that have been building. I really want to know what Gwen's part in the circle will be. I also can't wait to meet Lucy again. The release of this book can't come soon enough!

Movie Review: The Campaign

Hilarious! I might be inclined to watch this one again, it was really good, but I wouldn't purchase to add to my own collection. I definitely enjoyed this movie the first time. Some of the parts in the movie made me laugh long after the scene had ended. This would have been the perfect movie to watch during the election, but it was still good in the middle of December.

In order to gain influence over their North Carolina district, two CEOs seize an opportunity to oust long-term congressman Cam Brady by putting up a rival candidate. Their man, naive Marty Huggins, is director of the local Tourism Center.

New TV Series I am Crazy About!

I recently was told to watch the TV show, The Walking Dead. I am usually not up on the new TV shows so by the time I checked into this series, they are now on the third season which is great for me! I just checked out season one from the library. It. Was. Amazing! I was enthralled from the first episode. I am usually not a huge zombie fan, but this series has definitely captured my interest. I am anxiously awaiting the second season from the library.

I fell in love with the variety of characters they have on the show. Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger and I'm curious to see where the remaining gang heads out. I'm also anxious to find out what has caused this epidemic.

Sequels to Watch For!

As 2012 is coming to a close, I am reflecting back on the series I fell in love with over 2012 year. I can't wait for the sequels or continuations of these series in 2013:

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer -> Sequel to Cinder

I fell in love with Cinder the moment I started reading it. I can't wait to see this series continue with Scarlet!

Cinder returns in the second thrilling installment of the New York Times-bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother and the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she has no choice but to trust him, though he clearly has a few dark secrets of his own.

As Scarlet and Wolf work to unravel one mystery, they find another when they cross paths with Cinder. Together, they must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen who will do anything to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Sever by Lauren DeStefano --> Series continue of The Chemical Garden series

This series started with Wither, continued with Fever and ends with Sever. It was such an original concept in the first book. I can't wait to see where the journey takes us.

With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.

Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.

In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.
Tiger's Dream by Colleen Houck --> Series continues in the Tiger Saga series

I was all set for this series to end. What I thought was the final book, Tiger's Destiny, turns out to be only the fourth with the fifth installment in 2013. I'm intrigued to see where Houck takes us in book 5.

This book has not yet released a book cover. There is also not a summary for the project 2013 released book. My thoughts and ideas relate to Kishan. I think this book may focus on what happened to him after Kelsey and Ren left him in the past. I guess only time will tell. :)

More Sequels to Watch For will continue to future posts! Watch for them! Don't forget to let me know what you are looking forward to in 2013!~

Book Review: Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier

First in the series was Ruby Red. Sapphire Blue is the second book in this series. All I have is good things to say. I love this series! In addition, I should add that I hate time travel books. I have never been able to get into the whole time travel theme. These books make me doubt my own opinions. This series is excellent, if a little juvenile at times. The main character, Gwen, can be a stereotypical teenage girl in that she stresses over the boys aspect a little much, but even that doesn't detract from the book for me. Excellent second edition. Can't wait for Emerald Green to be released!

Gwen’s life has been a rollercoaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean.

At least Gwen has plenty of help. Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out.

I don't have a book trailer for Sapphire Blue, but here is one for Ruby Red, the first in the series

Movie Review: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

Absolutely phenomenal! I loved this movie. It was so compelling, and I loved the combination of historical fact with supernatural fiction. I have recommended this to family and friends - I have yet to hear any negative comments. I would recommend putting it on hold today!

From visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Director of Wanted) comes this edgy thriller about the untold story that shaped our nation. Abraham Lincoln, history's greatest hunter of the undead, must risk the presidency, his family and his life to protect America from bloodthirsty vampires.

*For added fun, check out the book as well!*

Movie Review: The Heart of Christmas

Warning: HUGE tearjerker! I cried for a good portion of this movie.

It is a very touching movie. Definitely something you would expect to see as a Hallmark movie. Another bonus, 5% of all proceeds of the sale of this movie goes to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This movie is inspired by a true story with actual pictures and information at the end of the movie. I watched this movie in two installments and it was hard to stop watching. I kept thinking about the family while I was at work. As it mentions in the movie, this story definitely has an impact on those who hear about it or watch it. This is a perfect movie for watching during the holidays as well as anytime during the year!

Based on a true story of hope and compassion. The Heart of Christmas will touch your heart and bring home the spirit of the holidays. Austin and Julie Locke are devastated when they learn that their young son, Dax, has been diagnosed with cancer. But with courage, determination and faith, they decide to give Dax a one last Christmas, even if it has to be in October. When the community sees the holiday decorations and learns the heartbreaking truth, what happens next is a miraculous outpouring of caring and support. The Heart of Christmas is the greatest gift of all.

Movie Review: Geek Charming

Browsing the shelves, I found this gem on the shelf. I'm a huge fan of the Disney channel and Disney movies, so this is right up my alley. And I know the story has been told millions of times, but I never get sick of the populars becoming friends with the regulars. It's not cheesy which makes it very easy to read. I loved it! Will I watch it again? Maybe, but probably not. Am I glad I watched it at least once? Absolutely!

After "it" girl Dylan accidentally drops her expensive handbag into the mall fountain, she's surprised when film geek Josh retrieves it for her. After Josh rescues her bag, Dylan jumps at the chance to be the subject of his new documentary. Dylan hopes the film will clinch her campaign for Blossom Queen -- she claims that winning is her only life goal! Josh, meanwhile, plans to make a hard-hitting expose about popularity; but as he gets to know Dylan, he discovers that her real persona is more interesting than the faux facade she has created. At the last minute, Josh decides his film should introduce this awesome girl to the world, but how will Dylan react when she sees it?
