President Visiting Manitowoc Today!!!

President Obama drove past the library today at 12:51! I was all ready and waiting in the cold to take a picture with my phone camera. Unfortunately, my camera froze up so I was not able to get a picture and post it! (Even if I had known which car he was in!) They drove past pretty quickly (I'm sure for security reasons) and are headed off to their next stop. What an honor for Manitowoc that the President should visit here and use our city as an example for the rest of the nation! Go Manitowoc!

Brain Camp by Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan

I have achieved a new milestone: I read my first graphic novel last night! With no previous experience, I have nothing to compare it with, but I loved Brain Camp! It was original! It was funny! And it was amazingly quick to read! I recommend this book to those who have never read a graphic novel and to those who read them all the time!

A quick and quirky graphic novel with a bit of an identity crisis. Two misfits, Jenna and Lucas, are sent to a summer-camp-of-last-resort by their respective, exasperated parents. Despite some hate-at-first-sight, the pair, in a predictable fashion, soon start up a friendship and eventually fall for one another. Unfortunately, something funny is going on at Camp Fielding: some kids disappear while others become suspiciously more intelligent. This is a fun story, one that moves well and is illustrated with excellent full-color artwork. Check out this book and other graphic novels at the Manitowoc Public Library!

Young Adult Libray Item Choice of the Week: DESPICABLE ME!!
I have now seen this movie two times and have loved it each time! It is hilarious! I highly recommend it to everyone of all ages!!

Teen Advisory Board Meeting

Next TAB meeting is set for Tuesday, January 18th at 5:00pm. We will be meeting in the Quiet Study Room. Items on the agenda for this month include: Chocolate Fest in February, Battle of the Books, summer library program, teen tech week, and future program ideas!

New Series by Robin McKinley

Call me a dork but I have always loved the books by Robin McKinley. As a young child, I was enthralled with the fairy tales and fantastical creatures. And if I'm honest, I'll admit I still enjoy books about these subjects; thus my love of Harry Potter and the Twilight series. Robin McKinley always brings a new modern twist to these beloved fairy tales and science fiction stories! I loved her retelling and twist of Beauty and the Beast in Rose Daughter. She also has fantastic novels about Robin Hood and Sleeping Beauty. McKinley has also written novels about vampires and dragons. She recently released in November 2010 a novel about pegasuses (or pegasi:)) - horses with wings. It is aptly titled, Pegasus! It was a very interesting read and well worth the time to read it. She took a subject which could end up boring or childish and made it into a novel worth reading. The readers are able to connect with the pegasuses in the book and understand them. I'll admit I began reading the book already loving it because of my previous experience with McKinley's novels, but the book really lived up to its potential. The only drawback was reading the last page and realizing it is part of a series and I will have to wait until 2012 to continue reading about Sylvi and Ebon!
