Good Reads - Hellboy

Title: Hellboy
Author: Mike Mignola
Artist: Mike Mignola

During World War II, a demon child is summoned to Earth by Nazi occultists seeking to gain a supernatural advantage in battle. The child, with its red skin and giant stone right hand, is found by Allied forces and taken to the United States under the watch of Professor Trevor Bruttenholm and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.).

That is the background for one of the most dynamic comic books available today as Hellboy has spawned a number of comics series, movies, toys and other memorabilia. A giant red demon who refuses to accept his fate as the destroyer of mankind, Hellboy travels the world soling supernatural mysteries and fighting a wide number of creatures from every form of mythology.

From his origin in World War II, Hellboy's story leads him to confrontations with Rasputin, the goddess Hecate, the Russian witch Baba Yaga, and Koshchei the Deathless. Throughout his strange adventures, he learns more and more about his destiny and the evil creatures who wish to serve him.

At his side for most of his adventures are his fellow BPRD members: Elizabeth Sherman and Abe Sapien. Through it all, every story is packed with action, adventure and lots of humor.
