Battle of the Books meeting change - Now August 4th

We haven't had a meeting yet, but the first Battle of the Books team meeting is already being rescheduled. We are pushing it back one day to Tuesday, August 4 at 2 p.m. It will still be in the Quiet Study Room. Sorry about the change, but we will have more meetings throughout the month.

July Wii Tournament standings

July provided the largest turnout thus far for the Wii tournament. That meant more competition but less time to get everyone in on the action. We were able to squeeze out a full round for each game not named Boxing. Needless to say, the August date will see plenty of boxing on the big screen.

Guitar Hero World Tour
For Guitar Hero, we are averaging the best three scores that each player can post for three different songs. The top average score will advance, though at least one of those scores must be posted at either the hard or expert level. In the unlikely event of a tie, the best note streak will serve as the tie-breaker.
1. Jacob Heili – 280,431

2. Matt Troyer – 279,389
3. Tyler Klackner – 154,993
4. Danny Sharpe – 154,003
5. Ben Rezach – 153,021
5. David Sharpe – 145,063

Mario Kart
Mario Kart is scored by granting one point for each race won and two points for winning circuits (four-race sets):
1. Danny Sharpe - 19 points
2. David Sharpe - 17 points
3. Tanner Sharpe - 7 points
4. (tie) Josh Meyer – 6 points
4. (tie) Sarah Kordiyak – 6 points

4. (tie) Donald Goeke – 6 points

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Super Smash Brothers Brawl is scored the same as last year: victories result in increased points per round (i.e. Round One=1 point, Round Two=2 points, etc.). Ultimately, the more tournament dates you can make, the better chance you have of being crowned champion.
1. Bryce Williams – 50 points

2. Sean Filipek – 30 points
3. Danny Sharpe – 20 points
4. David Sharpe – 15 points
5. Dallas Parker – 6 points
6. Tanner Sharpe – 5 points

Bowling
Bowling is scored the same as last year: the top two games combined results in our winner.
1. Danny Sharpe – 409

2. David Sharpe - 407
2. Bryce Williams – 336
3. Donald Goeke – 310
4. Sarah Kordiyak - 298
5. Ashley Steinmetz - 263

Boxing
Boxing is the same as Smash Brothers Brawl: points per round per victory.
1. Bryce Williams – 15 points
2. Tyler Klackner – 4 points
3. Danny Sharpe – 3 points
4. Donald Goeke – 1 point
5. Ryan Gorecki – 1 point
6. Tony Loiselle – 1 point

The next tournament date is slated for Friday, August 14 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Summer Finale on Monday

The Summer Reading Program comes to a close with pizza, singing and prizes on Monday afternoon. This is your chance to earn rewards for all your reading over the past two months (as well as for those hard-earned hours gained for attending YA programs here at the library). Make sure you bring in your final book slips to get all your hours counted up!

The finale kicks-off at 2 p.m. with pizza and a karaoke contest. Then things transition into a silent auction, where all your hours turn into points that you use to bid on prizes. Among those items on the auction block are: iTunes gift cards, various books (including Twilight series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, House of Night, and Generation Dead), DVDs, posters, Cd's and Movie Scene It DVD game.

Anime People Rock!

Bow down to the new rock legends of Manitowoc: Anime People! The all-girl group rocked out four songs to claim the Battle of the Bands title, narrowly edging out Hand of Doom. Anime People was the only group to successfully navigate their way through all four of their songs without failure for a 201 point total.

Despite a second-place finish overall, Hand of Doom did claim the two highest individual scores on the day of 68 and 66. Third place was claimed by Deathnote, while Blackhart placed fourth.

The bands were each given four tracks to play on Guitar Hero: World Tour on Wii. For each song, they were judged on their game score and their live stage performance for a maximum total of 80 points possible each turn.

Murder solved!

It turns out, the sleazy nightclub owner did it! Despite multiple attempts to throw everyone off her trail Vera Sin (brought to vibrant life by Jenny), did indeed commit the murder of artist Ronnie McIntosh during today's Murder program, despite her claims of innocence. Bravo for the repeated fainting spells to try and drive the point home! I do think it is interesting that Jenny started off wanting to play the role of the victim and ended up being the culprit...

Everyone did a great job getting into character and digging for clues while trying to prove their innocence. Kudos to Hunter for tackling the role of Miss Lemming and her stalkery ways - despite everyone pointing to her as a primary suspect, she still remained innocent (though no less weird and creepy). Also a tip of the hat to Angela's Amelia Fairfart - not only for dealing with so much suspicion but also taking on that name!

Really, thanks to everyone who took part:
Belinda (aka Ernest Shingleton)
Rebecca (aka Otto von Blockwurst)
John (aka Captain Pastings)
Teresa (aka Mother Inferior)
Katelyn (aka Laura Ghastly)
Haley (aka Marc D'Triumph)
Makayla (aka Hercule Perond)

Here is the site where I got that mystery from: Host-Party
Click on the "view mysteries" link to see more. We will definitely do this again - feel free to peruse their selection and give me suggestions for future murder!

Coming Monday: MURDER!

Don't miss our next YA program coming up on Monday, July 6: Murder!

This is your chance to test out your skills as a detective as we enact a murder and try to figure out the culprit. Of course, in order to solve a mystery, we need suspects - that is where you come in. We will pull the list of suspicious characters from those who attend, so be prepared to dust off your acting skills, as well!

The foul deeds get started at 2 p.m., but don't be shy about getting there a little early - every murder needs a victim, too...
