Good Reads: The Actual Real Reality of Jennifer James

Title: The Actual Real Reality of Jennifer James
Author: Gillian Shields

Jennifer James is a top student at her London school but is far from popular. She finds herself the target of popular and vicious Tallulah at school and uncomfortable at home as her parents drift apart from one another. Things get interesting when a production company selects her school as the site for a new reality show starring competing celebrities and students. Jennifer is shocked to find out that she is one of the students picked to be on the show and win a chance to attend a prestigious school that will only enhance her education and get her away from people like Tallulah.

The Actual Real Reality of Jennifer James is told through diary Jennifer's diary entries and news clippings. Throughout, the story is funny and entertaining. It is hard not to root for Jennifer from start to finish.

New Wii games, New Wii Program

We have added three new games to our Wii collection and need you stop by to try out.

On December 15 at 5:30 p.m., we will set up the big screens and fire up Mario Kart, Madden '09, and MLB Power Pros '08.

If you aren't familiar with Mario Kart, it is like the older incarnations that appeared on GameCube and N64 - only the controls are distinctly Wii and the game play is even better. Of course, since it is new, we need to unlock some of the characters, vehicles and various elements so we need your help. You come in and simply play the game to help us get things opened up.

Madden '09 is the latest version of the classic football games, complete with updated team rosters and the things you come to expect with the franchise. All Play is a little different, though. For the more casual player, you can pick up and play without getting bogged down in all the hard-core strategy and play-calling. Of course, that stuff is all there, but it really is a game for everyone. One of the newest features is a 5-on-5 mode that gives you four downs to put the ball in the end zone with your players and the first team to five wins. It is fast-paced and fun: definitely worth checking out.

The third game is one that we played here before - Power Pros '08. Generally, Power Pros is as complete of a baseball game as you will find. There are simple season and game modes, as well as an in-depth career mode to work your way from rookie ball to the Major League level. One of the most fun games, though, is the home run derby. The derby utilizes the Wii remote by making you swing as though holding a bat (like Wii Sports baseball). Unlike the Wii Sports version, however, you step up to the plate as whatever real major leaguer you want to be in whatever real major league park you choose. So if you want to try your hand as Ichiro in Wrigley Field or Ryan Braun at Fenway Park, you can.

All three games are fun and can be as quick or as in depth as you want to be - all you need to do is show up and play. Of course we will have snacks and pop for everyone.

See YA there!

December 15th at 5:30 p.m. in the Balkansky Room.
