Good Reads: Generation Dead

Title: Generation Dead
Author: Daniel Waters

Imagine going to class each day with kids just like you, as well as the occasional zombie.

In Generation Dead, that is exactly what is happening. For some reason in America, teenagers who die are up and moving again - complete with their memories. But they are not alive. And more of them are appearing over time.

For Phoebe Kendall, a goth chick who has a penchant for dressing in black and zoning out to bands like The Misfits, the appearance of the zombies starts to change her life. Especially since she finds herself attracted to one of them! At the same time, one of her closest friends, Adam, is discovering that he is in love with her. To make matters more complicated, her best friend Margi is struggling to understand Phoebe's interest in zombies.

Generation Dead is not your typical look at the walking undead. The characters here are all unique and more than mindless beings searching for brains to eat. Waters actually portrays the zombies as victims in a world that fears them and doesn't know what to do with them.

With Halloween on the horizon, Generation Dead is definitely a good way to kick off October!
