The Summer Program closed to sound of karaoke yesterday, with a number of brave souls willing to sing in public after loading up on pizza and pop. Medals were handed out on two categories: technical and performance. Matt and Melissa tied for the gold in the technical as they both sang to perfect scores. Forrest netted the silver and Angie walked away with the bronze. As for the performance, the crowd selected Angie as the big winner, followed by the all-girl group, the Diamonds. Matt snagged a bronze for his efforts. Big applause goes to Forrest who was willing to break the ice by performing first and going big by belting out Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".As for the summer totals, Jeannette cleaned up with a whopping 313 totals hours (adding reading hours, program attendance hours and doubled Battle Book hours). She claimed the Now 27 CD as her top prize. Hunter earned second prize with 83 hours and chose the origami kit. Logan finished third to claim a LaDeDa Books gift certificate by reading 78.25 hours. Close on his heels at 77.25 hours was Sarah, the owner of the Now 28 CD.
That brings the summer programs to a close, but there is still plenty going on. The Battle of the Books is set for September 3 and we are still taking sign-ups. We are also reconvening our teen advisory board and the Wii tournament rolls on August 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
